All 7 Aveyond Games Released for Linux, DRM-Free

Recently here, on The Linux Rain, I reviewed Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist, the latest entry into the Aveyond series and one that had been brought to Linux. Now, only a few days ago, the entire series from Aveyond from Aveyond 1: Rhen's Quest all the way to the aforementioned Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist is now available, completely DRM-free.

If you're pretty cluey, you may have noticed that I mentioned seven games, even though the Aveyond series only goes up to four. The reason for this is Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic is a series in itself, consisting of four parts.

The complete series line looks like this:

  • Aveyond 1: Rhen's Quest
  • Aveyond 2: Ean's Quest
  • Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic
    • Aveyond 3-1: Lord of Twilight
    • Aveyond 3-2: Gates of Night
    • Aveyond 3-3: The Lost Orb
    • Aveyond 3-4: The Darkthrop Prophecy
  • Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist

Nevertheless, all games seem to run just fine, as Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist did back when I reviewed it. I imagine the engine is much the same across the series for what are essentially RPGMaker games, which is a good thing, as in this case the porting for all the Aveyond games has been swift and seemingly pretty consistent. The developer doing the work was pretty insistent that the ported code is native, running in C and Ruby (see here in the forums).

The games can be found here. All the games individually can be bought and downloaded (again, DRM-free). I do note that as of writing, the Aveyond: Complete Collection is currently not available (or at least the link isn't working), but all the games do seem to be available in individual form.

The best thing is, there are demos available to try if you wish to make sure the game(s) run on your system and of course, that you like what you see.
